Welcome to MWCoA's Green ( Eco Friendly ) Education Center
MWCoA is not going to get into the politics of Going Green but by using Eco Friendly products, you leave the Earth a better place.
As consumers demand safer and more effective cleaning products window cleaners need to find the best and safest products to serve these consumers. Once you become "certified" your work is not done. Being Green is an on going process. Many products carry the Green Seal logo, but others do not and are still environmentally safe. Other products commonly used are not environmentally safe. Many window cleaners have used ammonia or alcohol in the past. Some continue to use these products. But the times my friend, they are a changing to quote Dylan. It's time to move into the 21st century. Professional window cleaning Chemicals are available that are environmentally safe. Later in this article, we will list the best products to use to clean windows.
In addition, we will also evaluate the vehicles you drive and what you can do from your home.
Once you have gone through the education process, you will be tested on your knowledge and performance.
After passing the tests you will receive a certificate like this

You will need to be recertified on a yearly basis. As your situation changes, as new chemicals appear on the market and as new techniques come into play, the education center will change to reflect all of that.
You will need to share your education with your employees. They may be tested at no charge, but only you and your company will be certified. Just imagine if a customer was to ask your employee about a subject with which they are unfamiliar.
MWCoA will show you the proper way to handle and use the chemicals to the best of their abilities.
MSDS for every chemical should be carried with you at all times in every vehicle.
MWCoA Doing Something
This is the first step forward for the window cleaning industry, doing something, making a difference. The first section is going to be informing you about what you can do and why you SHOULD do it. Let me say up front I am not a Global Warming Alarmist. Nor am I a man made Global Warming blamer. Real or not, it is better that we do something and do it sooner rather than later.
What can YOU do? We can all do a lot. If we just make small changes, together it can add up. Right now in 2008 we are in a gas pricing crisis. Gas hit over $3.45 on the national average. They say there are over 60,000 window cleaners in the U.S. If every window cleaner stopped driving anything with an engine over 6 cylinders, that would reduce gas use and emission output nationally. Plus, what you do in your business and personal life has an effect on others. What you do affects your personal family, friends and neighbors. YOU can make a difference.
Reducing the amount of gas we use is one thing, but there is so much more. Recycling is another. To start you could easily recycle newspapers. Then add recycling aluminum cans and then glass bottles. It will become a habit that you can not stop.
The Chemicals that we use can make a difference in our environment. There are many harsh Chemicals in the window cleaning industry. Many window cleaners use Ammonia. Some use Dawn dish washing liquid. We are far better off to use professional window cleaning products such a GG4 and Unger's Easy Glide. Both of these products are environmentally friendly. The are non toxic and biodegradable.
Some are sitting back and saying “we as an industry are not on the radar; our
methods have not been targeted. So why call attention to ourselves?" Posted by Mike Draper on the Window Cleaning network on March 13th 2008.
Many agreed. MWCoA considered working on "Green Issues" more than 18 months ago. But we had others things to get finished first. What we are undertaking may not be perfect at first. It may be a learning adventure for all of us, but doing something is much better than doing nothing.
MWCoA has contacted every major window cleaning manufacturer and is working pushing window cleaning into a new era. A "Green" era.
What is "Green" To be Green is to care about the Earth. We all live here and we are going to leave this planet to our kids and our grandkids. Being Green is recycling, using as little energy as possible and replenishing when possible. There will be a lot of reading to do to get certified and some may just read and not be certified. That's fine also. We at MWCoA believe the certification will hold a value to your customers. But if you put into practice what you learn here, all of our lives will be better.
